Moreover, "who's using it and for how long?" is not a bad metric to compare a product's robustness and the likelihood of future support among various implementations.

Broadcast Operations: Digital - Automatic Analysing System (DAAS v3.0.0)

Description

D-AAS is a distributed application, used 24hours/7days inside SES-ASTRA Broadcast Operation Centre Betzdorf Luxembourg.

The system, which controls the quality of more than 1000 Digital Television services broadcasted via 3 Orbital Positions (ASTRA 1,2 and 3), has following benefits:
> Remote Control of the DVStations and Automatic Cycling of the measurement of Channel MPEG parameters;
> User-friendly graphical user interface (GUI) displaying all current measurements and alarms in real time;
> Distributed application each process can be executed on a different computer in a different location, running independently of the others;
> All measurements made at different locations are collected and monitored in one central location;
> Can manage multiple DVStations, thus enabling redundant systems for greater system reliability.

The system comprise six main components:
> Pixelmetrix DVStation with Transport Stream Processor (TSP);
> XMLBlaster server (Message Oriented Middleware (MOM));
> D-AAS Measurement Agent;
> D-AAS Database Agent;
> D-AAS Database (typically installed on Production server);
> D-AAS Client.
The communication between the agents and clients are based on the XMLBlaster - Message Oriented Middleware!

Description

It is a remote job execution dispatcher between linux boxes (sun jdk1.3) and as400 mainframes (ibm jdk1.3). Each server can publish some jobs via xmlBlaster, then the destination server executes the job and sends back a acquitement. KProcManager is using the protocols XmlRpc and Corba. The security plugin is htpasswd. The development started on 2001-10-01, version 1 is in production since 2002-02-01 and version 2 since 2003-02-01.
